The Dauvissats have long bottled their oldest vines in Vaillons separately: 0.7 hectares worth of vines averaging 70 years of age in the Sur Vaillons lieu-dit. The “Vieilles Vignes” constitutes a notable step up in power and intensity from the regular Vaillons bottling, with a more unctuous texture and greater cling and length on the palate. Its élevage inverts the order of the basic bottling, with fermentation as well as the first year of aging taking place in barrels, and the second year spent in steel.

BURGHOUND reviews

I can report that his 2019s, revisited below, are coming along nicely, indeed they're very impressive.

91-94 points Burghound

70+ year old vines. There is an interesting, if very subtle, minty character to the ripe, expressive and attractively layered nose of both white and yellow peach, nectarine and iodine along with a plethora of floral elements. There is outstanding volume to the almost painfully intense flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the hugely persistent finale. This is a serious and very powerful built-to-age effort so at least some patience will be required.
