La Gerla, Brunello di Montalcino 1999
92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine
Cellar Full red-ruby. Plum, currant, smoke and tobacco on the nose, lifted by a floral nuance. Then penetrating, sappy and highly concentrated, with ripe flavors that are not at all overly sweet. A suave, serious Brunello that boasts energy and density without any excess weight. Finishes impressively long, with lush, noble tannins and a suggestion of woodsmoke. Like a hypothetical blend of Pauillac and Graves. (ST) (9/2004)

Textbook Brunello with complex, yet subtle aromas of cherries, tobacco, cedar and spices. Full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins and a fresh and delicious finish. Excellent wine from this producer. Better than the 1997. Best from 2005 through 2010. 2,000 cases made. (JS) (Web Only - 2004)
