Lafite Rothschild 1976
Very high shoulder; bin soiled labels [Excellent condition for this wine]
Broadly speaking, America's Bicentennial Year saw many average wines being produced. The wines that were successful were made from emerging regions and producers, these are unicorns. The one exception to this phenomenon that made a wine that could be distributed globally was either Ch. Latour or Ch. Lafite and of these two the clear winner is this sleeper of a wine. In 1976 Lafite produced a blockbuster for the ages - literally a wine from a long gone era in its structure and power. The professional trade has pointed buyers to this vintage of Lafite consistently for the last 25 years. It's practically immortal.
96 points James Suckling
This is the wine of the vintage. I love the rosewater, currants and citrus character to this now. It's still full body yet so ethereal. It goes on and on in the finish turning creamy and citrusy. (10/2016)
