Marcel Lapierre, Morgon, Cuvee Marcel Lapierre MMXV 2015 (1.5L)
Magnums of this excellent, very age worthy, Morgon from a master producer are very hard to come by. This wine as a decade + more to go to reach maturity in this format.
Old vines with naturally low yields. Organic farming used, manually harvested, as late as possible to achieve maximum ripeness, with rigorous sorting of the grapes. Indigenous yeasts only during whole-cluster fermentation that lasts for ten to twenty days. Semi-carbonic maceration. Wines aged on fine lees in old Burgundy barrels, then bottled without filtering.
94 points Vinous
Deep ruby. An impressively complex, highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red and dark berries, incense and smoky minerals, and subtle floral and earth flourishes gain strength as the wine opens up. Palate-staining black raspberry, cherry compote and blood orange flavors are accompanied by violet pastille and spicecake qualities. Concentrated yet lithe, displaying outstanding clarity and power on a very long, focused, gently tannic finish. The interplay of depth and vivacity here is superb. (JR) (1/2017)
