A blend of 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and3% Syrah.
Garnet red in color. A collection of fresh herbs, including thyme, sage, and clove withhints of hawthorn and quince followed by dark boysenberries and cherries. Blackberry and moist earth notes coupled with clove, pepper and quince give this wine exceptional balance and soft tannins.
Matanzas Creek has been making high quality Sonoma County wines since the late-1970s, and this 2005 Merlot is a fine example from them. The wine's Bordeaux like nose is balanced by dark fruit and spice, leaning on a more Old World style of the varietal than is often found these days. On the palate the wine is earthy with oak spice, pepper, quince and blackberry flavors on a bed a soft tannins that keeps you coming back for more.
