Michel Niellon, Chassagne-Montrachet, Les Vergers 2017
Michel Niellon operates out of two absurdly small cellars in Chassagne, producing quite simply sublime wines. He has only 6 hectares of vines, which include small holdings in Chevalier and Bâtard-Montrachet. Old vines and low yields give these wines their intensity, along with Niellon`s supreme winemaking skills.
Supply is severely rationed due to the small size of the domaine and Niellon`s huge following in the United States. But, for those lucky enough to secure some bottles, the rewards are immense.
95 points James Suckling
This white starts out with plenty of flesh, featuring apricot and lime flavors, with a hint of the sea, before firming up and revealing a racy side as this winds down on the long finish. Shows plenty in reserve and a lot of energy. Drink now through 2027.(BS) (11/2019)
94 points Decanter
Yields were comparatively high at 60hl/ha, but there's no lack of concentration or focus here on this premier cru bottling from the northwestern corner of Chassagne. Floral, fresh and focussed, it's a precise, sappy, nuanced wine with typically stylish oak integration. (TA) (12/2018)
