Alban, Edna Valley, Estate Grenache 2011
Description
95 points Vinous
Juicy black cherries, plums, cloves, menthol and violets meld together in the 2011 Grenache. Beautifully rich, layered and textured in the glass, the 2011 impresses for its fabulous balance and long, exceptionally finessed finish. The 2011 is paradoxically super-ripe, especially in its bouquet, but there is plenty of acidity as well because there was no heat accumulation to speak of. (AG) (7/2014)

From a tiny crop and a shockingly coolor year, the 2011 Grenache has incredible concentration and depth given the conditions. Inky colored with lots of black fruits, smoked beef, tapenade, road tar and licorice, it's full-bodied, thick and dense on the palate, with good acidity. More compact and focused than normal, it will be interesting to follow this beauty over the coming decade. (JD) (8/2015)
