Second time I had this unbelievable elixir, tonight from a magnum. Probably one of the best wines of my life. The magnum has quite some impact, it seems 10 years younger than from the normal bottle. The bouquet screams Howell Mountain with almost oyster like salinity, iodine, some cassis, lots of chalk but no tertiary aromas whatsoever. On the palate it’s even more youthful and absolutely monolithic. The tannins are still gripping like on day 1 but the extract and inner sweetness keep it in balance. A wine, which will probably always be misunderstood by 90% of the wine drinking community but for the rest it’s pure and almost immortal enjoyment. Drink now and for 2-3 more decades. (10/20/2022)

Bright, deep red-ruby. Wonderfully mellow and complex on the nose, offering everything from fresh dark fruits to chocolate, red licorice, flowers and graphite minerality. Pure liquid silk in the mouth; at once sharply delineated and edge-free thanks to superb harmonious acidity, possessing a wonderfully tight core of juicy fruit. This very dry, classic Howell Mountain Cabernet finishes with serious dusty but sweet tannins and will still improve. Stunning wine. (ST) (8/2018)
