[$60 list] Laherte's NV Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs is one of the great under the radar wines in Champagne. It marries precision, tension and depth. Citrus peel, crushed rocks, mint, dried flowers and white pepper race across the palate. The Blanc de Blancs is a Champagne of tremendous stature and class that blends the best attributes of sites in Epernay and the Côtes des Blancs. Best of all, it's an insane value. The current release is 60% 2018 and 40% reserve wines from 2017 and 2016. No dosage. Disgorged: March, 2021. Drink: 2021-2028. (Nov 2021)

Aurélien Laherte’s current release of Blanc de Blancs non-vintage Brut Nature hails from the superb base year of 2015, with half of the blend made up of reserve wines from the previous two years. As is customary for him, he ages his vins clairs for fully six months in barrel prior to blending and bottling for aging on their fine lees. The new Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature is lovely, wafting from the glass in a mix of pear, apple, a touch of almond, chalky soil tones, bread dough and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and beautifully balanced, with good acids, elegant mousse and impressive length and grip on the classy finish. Aurélien Laherte picks his grapes at greater ripeness level for this bottling, which gives excellent depth of fruit to buffer the acids in this non-dosé wine. 2019-2040. (View From the Cellar May/Jun 2019).

Based on the 2018 vintage and disgorged this year, the NV Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs derives from vines growing in the chalky Côteaux Sud d’Épernay. Unwinding in the glass with notions of crisp green apple, nougat, fresh bread and Meyer lemon, it's medium to full-bodied, chiseled and chalky, with tangy acids and a long, saline finish even in this demonstrative vintage. Drink: 2021-2033. (Wine Advocate Sep 2021).

91 points Wine & Spirits:

You have to love acidity to appreciate this wine, its fruit on the underside of ripeness, so brisk it might make you shudder. The austerity—some would say bitterness—is cushioned by touches of fresh cream, almond and crunchy apple flavors. For oysters.
