This wine isn’t made from apricots, but the concept for this style of wine originated next to a 100-year-old apricot orchard in upper Ojai, the cute little valley that’s between here and the city of Santa Paula.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOriginally, back in the mid ‘90s, Adam crafted two bottlings of a blend called Apricots. Those were comprised of Syrah from Roll Ranch in Upper Ojai and Zinfandel from neighboring Hall Ranch, where the ‘Apricots’ water wagon drawn on the label is still parked along Highway 150.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThose original Apricots bottlings spoke to Ojai’s sunshine with their fruit radiance, but they also showed a sinewy structure of acidity and tannin that more resembled an Italian wine—which is to say, a wine built for the table.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Zinfandel vines that provided for those blends are long gone, but for years Adam hankered to re-create that style of blend.
