Ojai, Santa Rita Hills, Melville Vineyard, Syrah 2004
Description
damp stained labels
94 points from Robert Parker
From the cool Santa Rita Hills, the 2004 Syrah Melville reveals classic blackberry, blueberry, charcoal, acacia flower, and bacon fat aromas. Stunningly rich, full-bodied, thick, and juicy with a smoky character in the mouth that is not apparent in the fruit-laden nose, this is a beautifully proportioned, full-bodied Syrah that should drink nicely for 10-15 years. Rich and deep on the nose with medicinal licorice and camp fire smoke. Well balanced tannins hold this wines structure for the 16 years it’s been aging elegantly in the bottle. Classic Sarah that would pair nicely with any high seared beef, pork or lamb. Don’t be afraid to drink it alone as it opens to blue/black fruit, pipe tobacco ash and baking spice. This complex yet elegant wine will have you begging for more when the bottle is empty! Get it while you can! (5/13/2020)
