Tensley, Santa Barbara County, Colson Canyon, Syrah 2013
Description
94 points Wine Advocate
Always the richest and most powerful of the single-vineyard releases, the 2013 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is the only single-vineyard Syrah to see any new oak, yet the oak is always completely soaked up by the wealth of fruit. The 2013s inky purple color is followed by a decadent array of plums, blueberries, smoked herbs and violets characteristics that literally come soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, voluptuous and about as hedonistic as they come with lots of sweet fruit, this powerhouse effort has no hard edges and a great finish. Like a lot of Joey's wines, this pushes on the sweetness level, yet is still one sexy drink. (JD)(8/2015)

The 2013 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is dark, rich and voluptuous, with a personality that emphasizes textural depth and richness. Pomegranate, exotic spices, mint and new leather are all super-expressive, while floral and savory varietal notes play less of a role. That is typical of Colson Canyon, the warmest site Tensley works with. For what its worth, this is one of my personal favorites in the range. (AG) (8/2015)
