Thomas & Fils, Sancerre, Grand Chaille 2017 [CLOSE OUT]
Description
The Thomas family has been growing grapes and making wine in Sancerre since 1670. Today, Julien represents the 13th generation to run the Domaine, farming 16 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir based out of the hamlet of Verdigny. He converted the estate to organic and biodynamic practices in 2012, using only indigenous yeast to ferment happy grapes that produce a wine of great pleasure.
The wines of Domaine Thomas are not shy but express great texture and length with assertive flavor. Julien has recently taken the helm of the estate and has instituted biodynamic principles, carving out a new, more natural path for the future of the Thomas family. Another important aspect for the character of these wines is the harvesting, at Domaine Thomas they practice green harvesting which limits the yields and helps the plants achieve phenolic ripeness and balance.
The Grand Chaille is a reference to the flinty soils (Silex) of this vineyard and offers up subtle differences in both texture and flavor. Expressive with zesty citrus fruits, pear, white flowers and white pepper, the rocky minerality lingers throughout with a smoky flint character. This wine delivers pure terroir expression with a satisfying and powerful finish.
