Gislaine Barthod, Chambolle-Musigny, Aux Beaux Bruns 2008
Description

The 2008 Beaux Bruns is yet another superb bottle in the making. The bouquet is deep, pure, complex and vibrant, as it jumps from the glass in a mix of black cherries, cocoa, woodsmoke, a touch of plum, complex soil tones and a topnote of vinesmoke. On the palate the wine is fullish, deep and very classy, with lovely mid-palate depth and nascent complexity, tangy acids, ripe tannins and fine length on the potentially very velvety finish. This should drink a year or two sooner than the equally fine les Baudes, and last at least as long. Another really outstanding wine. (11/2009)

The 2008 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Beaux Bruns is turning into a beautiful Burgundy. There are plenty of bright red berries, raspberry and wild strawberry on the seamless nose, with a hint of marmalade loitering in the background. The palate displays fine concentration, quite powerful and perhaps more masculine than Ghislaine Barthod’s usual style, but it is adorned with a compelling spicy finish. This is only beginning to show what it can do. Drink 2015-2025. (NM) (8/2013)
