Pierre-Yves Colin is the eldest son of the famed Marc Colin. After working as the winemaker at his father’s domaine from 1994 to 2005, he established his own domaine from family vineyards he inherited from his family. Since that time, he has rapidly become a star in the Cote de Beaune and is now considered one of Burgundy’s top producers. His choice to use larger demi-muid barrels and eschew the use of battonnage, makes each one of his bottlings a clear expression of its terroir and a study in mineral-driven Chardonnay. As scary as it may seem, with each new vintage his wines seem to get better and better. This is not only one of the top domaines in Chassagne, this is one of the great winemakers and domaines in the world.

Opened at Caprice in Hong Kong. Decanted but enjoyed immediately.
This was a very pleasant surprise - a beautiful Chassagne and drinking wonderfully despite the young age. Just give it some air, and it will blossom. Buttery, nutty and floral Chardonnay notes, balanced by good acidity and structure on the palate. PYCM is the real deal. I think there is some upside here, and would revisit in 3+ years. 12/22/2022

Initially some soft gun smoke, then yellow apple, papaya, some thyme and florals. Gorgeously rich on the palate - expands and expands - rich papaya, citrus tang (some sort of exotic orange), saline, cream. Basically bouncing around between most of Chardonnay’s greatest hits but hangs together like a complete set. Lovely 8/20/2022

Here the nose is quite firmly reduced and essentially unreadable today. More interesting are the highly energetic and intensely stony ultra-refined flavors that exhibit excellent persistence on the focused and balanced finale. This classy effort is a wine of finesse and should drink reasonably well young but reward up to a decade of cellaring. In short, this is really lovely juice. (6/2020)
