The 2018 Weingut Riehen "L'Unique" Pinot Noir (also known as L'Unique Rouge) represents a monumental milestone for this exceptional estate in the Basel-Stadt canton of Switzerland. Crafted by the winery (formerly known as Jost & Ziereisen), the 2018 vintage serves as the debut release of this entry-level cuvée, offering wine enthusiasts a rare, reasonably priced gateway into high-end Swiss Pinot Noir.

• Grape Variety: 100% Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder).
• Maturation: Aged for 18 months in large traditional oak casks (großes Holzfass), allowing the structural frame to naturally integrate while keeping the oak influence secondary to the fresh mountain fruit.
• Composition: 13.5% Alcohol by Volume (ABV) secured with a high-quality DIAM technical cork to prevent cork taint.

• Aroma: A highly expressive, earthen nose showcasing mid-season dark cherries, blueberries, and wild raspberries. This bright alpine fruit is meticulously complexed by undertones of forest moss, wet dirt, sumac, wild flowers, and integrated baking spices like clove.
• Palate: Medium to light in body but intensely extracted, delivering a powerful core of pure cherry fruit. It drives forward with a striking nerve of ripe, vibrant acidity and firm, grainy tannins that give it a rigid, linear blueprint.
• Finish: Substantially long and texturally gripping, concluding with a dry, chalky, and intensely mineral finish.

• Current Window: Drink now through 2028+. Because this wine possesses rigid, rustic tannins and serious structural density, it is highly tightly wound upon first opening.
• Decanting Is Mandatory: If opening soon, it requires 2 to 3 hours in a decanter to shed its hard edges, allow the intense tannins to soften, and let the beautifully pure red fruit flavors properly expand.
