The non-vintage Pleiades Lot XI is apparently a field blend that has more in common with a wine from northern Italy than a Rhone Ranger. The blend includes Syrah, Petite Syrah, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Carignan, and Barbera. A deep plum/ruby color is followed by an expressive, uplifting nose of exotic fruits, berries, spice, saddle leather, and a hint of dried Provencal herbs. Earthy and fruity, with steak tartar-like flavors, it is for readers who enjoy character and soul in a wine that tastes good and makes you think. 08/2003
