The 2017 Domaine François Buffet Volnay 1er Cru "Carelle Sous la Chapelle" is an exceptionally elegant, terroir-driven premier cru Burgundy Pinot Noir. Sourced from a tiny 0.44-hectare plot situated right beneath the Notre-Dame Chapel in Volnay, this wine perfectly captures the delicate, perfumed, and ethereal style that has defined the estate since 1692.
• Producer: Domaine François Buffet (under the masterly guidance of Marc-Olivier Buffet).
• Vinification: Hand-selected grapes are fully sorted and undergo a traditional native-yeast fermentation with minimal intervention to preserve delicate vineyard semantics.
• Maturation: Matured for 12 to 22 months in classic French oak barrels. The wood profile is deliberately kept subtle to prevent oak tannins from overshadowing the light fruit structure.
• Composition: 13.0% Alcohol by Volume (ABV).
• Aroma: A highly aromatic, traditional nose showing wild strawberries, sour red cherries, tart cranberries, and huckleberries. These high-toned red fruits are tightly layered with hints of black tea leaves, wild violets, rhubarb pie, and an earthy, musky depth (sous-bois).
• Palate: Medium-bodied and perfectly balanced. It exhibits a beautiful, delicate roundness driven by lively medium-plus acidity and powdery, ultra-fine tannins that glide effortlessly across the palate.
• Finish: Exceedingly supple and focused, leaving behind a lingering, clean finish anchored by a distinct stony mineral line and subtle spices.
