Guiberteau, Saumur, Les Chapaudaises, Rouge 2017
Description
Received in Original Cartons
With their old vines, quality organic viticulture, and modern winemaking, Domaine Guiberteau has quickly become a leading estate in the Loire's Saumur. The family has grown grapes in Saumur for more than 100 years, and for much of that time they provided the fruits of their labor to the local winemaking co-op. Current proprietor Romain Guiberteau is the third generation of vigneron since the family officially founded their own label, and their vines were planted by his father and grandfather just after World War II.
Becky Wasserman
Romain Guiberteau owns some of the best land in Brézé, and makes dry chenins of punk rock violence, yet of Bach-like logic and profoundness. He is creating quite a stir.
93 points Wine Spectator
This shows great tension between the firm but ripe tannins and the intensely flavored palate, which displays notes of bramble, cassis and dark olive, with light hints of French roast. Seamlessly balanced, with the tannins providing support and structure without standing out. Mineral elements mark the finish. (04/2021)
