My last bottle. Kept in our cellar for 25+ yrs. Cork crumbled but the bottle was filled to the neck level. Moderate sediment. Opened at 5:00pm and tried after a 30 minute decant, out of concern that the wine would be short lived. Brownish red color. Musty, wet leather and underbrush dominated the aroma, with some weak cherry notes peeking through. Tannins were completely resolved, but the taste was similarly dominated by damped wood and barnyard, with scant fruit remaining. My wife refused to keep drinking it, while I persevered. At about 11:00pm the wine came alive, much to my surprise. The off-putting aromas and flavors disappeared, and the fruit emerged. At this point it became a full-bodied, outstandingly smooth expression of mature Rioja with dominant sweet fruit, slightly mineral, complimented by faint cigar and orange peel notes, and a 30+ second finish. I was shocked, and had my wife taste it as well. She couldn't believe it was from the same bottle! 2/12/2022
