Domaine de la Grange des Peres, VDP l'Herault 1997

A gorgeously put together blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Mourvèdre, and 20% Cabernet, the 2007 Domaine de la Grange des Pères Vin de Pays de l'Hérault has more in common with a top Syrah from the central coast than the typical wines of the region. Aged in a combination of both old and new wood, it displays an incredibly polished, seamless personality with sweet crème de cassis and blackberry styled fruit that’s supported by spice, smoke, wild herb, and licorice aromas that just jump from the glass. With air, this gains complexity and shows much more coffee and mineral nuances. Youthful and fruit driven on the nose, the wine is full bodied on the palate and has fantastic concentration, stunning purity, and a perfectly balanced, light texture that carries the finish. Hard to resist now, I don’t see any reason this won’t continue to drink beautifully for 10 to 12 years, if not longer. 03/11

First time with this wine which was a recommendation of a dinner companion at Atera. It has developed a bit of a cult following and so I understand was at one point quite reasonable to purchase and has since become quite a bit more expensive. It holds up to the new price relatively well though. There's a lot of life to it (sounds like much more life than the previous note - I would say this has another 10+ years easy to it). Perhaps a bit almost heavy or extra fruity and would benefit from a few more years and time. But lovely and went great with the red meat courses. 12/23/2021
