Splash decanted then open in bottle for 4hrs...best bottle I've had to date! This wine was LOADED with exotics and crushed geology...huge citrus attack...ripe orchard and tropical fruits...banana skin ...exotics of quince paste, candied limes, lanolin wax, smoked herbs, wild honey...it was floral, it was salty, chalky...electric and SO fascinating! Was consensus white wotn, and my wotn in a company of a lot of great wines! 4/6/2024

The 2010 Clos la Néore from the Vatans is utterly stunning and one of the best young vintages of this wine I have ever had the pleasure to taste. The utterly pure and laser-like bouquet soars from the glass in a blaze of lime, tart orange, kaleidoscopic minerality, fresh-culled mint, citrus blossoms and gently grassy tones. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and razor-sharp, with brilliant delineation, a great core of pure fruit, snappy acids, crystalline minerality and utterly magical length and grip on the multi-faceted finish. The 2010 Clos la Néore does not seem to have quite the ripeness of other recent top vintages of this wine, such as 2005, 2002 or 1997, and this gives the new vintage a raciness that is utterly extraordinary. The Vatan 2010 Sancerre Clos la Neore is fascinatingly – indeed, almost mind-bendingly – complex, already in the nose. Musk, white truffle, citrus oils, bittersweet floral perfume, lime and tangerine, as well as fusil, chalky and maritime mineral notes associated with Kimmeridgian origins waft in a kaleidoscopically interactive array. Fresh citrus and a stony-chalky undertone take the lead on a silken-textured palate but with almost electrically charged vivacity of interaction emerging in the long, saliva-liberating finish, mirroring the wine’s remarkable aromatic show. This will be at least a twenty year keeper worthy of comparison with such memorable past vintages as 1988, 1990, or 1996, each of which has shown gloriously when tasted within the past couple of years.
