Pierre Brisset, Bourgogne, Cuvee Gabrius, Rouge 2021
All wines purchased upon release, many purchased importer-direct, and all stored in a purpose built redundant temperature and humidity controlled cellar.
The 2021 Maison Pierre Brisset Bourgogne Rouge "Cuvée Gabrius" is a highly characterful, small-production regional Pinot Noir that punches well above its generic appellation tier. Named "Gabrius" as an homage to the ancient historic name for the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, this cuvée is intentionally styled to deliver the complex structure, density, and secondary aging traits typical of a village-level Burgundy
Estate & Vintage Profile: The estate explicitly notes that while the challenging, frost-impacted 2021 vintage caused many standard regional Burgundies to taste diluted or thin, the Cuvée Gabrius successfully maintained an impressively generous, broad volume on the mid-palate.
Vinification & Philosophy: Maison Pierre Brisset practices meticulous low-intervention micro-negoce and estate sourcing. The wine undergoes traditional native fermentation and is thoughtfully raised in French oak barrels to emphasize complex secondary aromas rather than simple, primary red fruit. It is bottled unfiltered to safeguard its texture and raw energy.
• Aroma: Moves far beyond basic, simple red fruits. It reveals a complex bouquet of dark cherries and wild raspberries integrated into secondary notes of sweet oak spice, forest bark, wet limestone earth, and a faint hint of clove.
• Palate: Unusually generous, fleshy, and broad for a generic Bourgogne rouge. It shows excellent substance and structural weight, framed by fine but present wood-matured tannins and refreshing, crisp acidity.
• Finish: Long, structured, and highly persistent, resolving into a unique, animating trail of cool, fresh mint and green herbal complexity.
