All wines purchased upon release, many purchased importer-direct, and all stored in a purpose built redundant temperature and humidity controlled cellar.

The 2019 Domaine Pierrick Bouley Volnay 1er Cru "Les Champans" is a serious, muscular, yet highly precise expression of one of Volnay’s most celebrated Premier Cru vineyards. Drawn from a 0.25-hectare parcel of vines planted around 1986, this wine represents a stylistic shift for the estate as Pierrick Bouley successfully worked to soften the structural hardness sometimes associated with young Champans fruit.
The 2019 Burgundy vintage is widely considered phenomenal, and this bottle exemplifies that success through its concentration, lively energy, and exceptional aging potential.

• Terroir: Sourced from fine clay soils mixed with pebbles on the northern side of the vineyard (close to Carelles Sous la Chapelle), which provides excellent natural drainage and ideal south/south-east sun exposure.
• Craftsmanship: Production is incredibly limited, yielding only about 1,200 bottles annually. The grapes are strictly hand-harvested into small boxes, sorted mechanically on a vibrating table, and vinified entirely without sulfites to lock in the vibrant, unadulterated freshness of the fruit.

One cuvée that will demand patience is the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Champans, a serious, elegantly muscular wine that displays considerable potential. Offering up aromas of cassis, wild berries, vanilla pod, sweet spices and loamy soil, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with real depth and mid-palate amplitude, built around rich tannins and lively acids.

One of the new talents of the Côte de Beaune, Pierrick Bouley is a name you're going to hear a lot more about in the years to come. Of course, Bouley hasn't courted the media spotlight as assiduously as some of his contemporaries; instead, he's been hard at work in the vineyards. He presides over some 9.6 hectares, divided into more than 40 parcels.....The results of this exigent viticulture and sensible winemaking are impressive: seamless, complete wines with superb concentration, beautifully defined by site. Of course, 2019 is Pierrick's fifth vintage, so it's still early days, and there will no doubt be refinements to come (while the percentage of new oak is small, might less-obviously-impactful barrels nonetheless be selected?), but these wines are already very good indeed.
