As co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Aubert Villaine doesn't often get the chance to get his hands dirty in the making of the wine. So he and his wife Pamela started their own small project specifically out of the limelight, making uniquely terroir-driven wines from the Côte Chalonnaise village of Bouzeron, which they call home.

As you might expect, these are well-crafted wines that are often understated and nuanced, occasionally utterly beguiling." "Les Montots" is a single-vineyard wine from 1.6 hectares of clay and limestone planted with 50-year-old Pinot Noir vines. Careful selection is done in the vineyard and a minimum of two-thirds whole clusters are fermented each year. The wine spends 10-12 months in barrel before being bottled. (06/2014)
*Outstanding* Burghound
A softly floral character combines with ripe and very fresh aromas of dark cherry, spice and pungent earth where the latter element continues onto the velvety and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess an attractive texture even though there is a very mild hint of rusticity to the balanced and persistent finish. *Oustanding* (10/2013)
