About the Domain
Saint-Laurent, Montigny-lès-Arsures, Jura, France “Wines of jewel-like brilliance that effervesce with personality. In our view these stunning new releases firmly place Domaine du Pélican among theJura’s great estates.” Justerini & Brooks, London.
Intriguing and elegant wines made from a dynastic marriage of Jura and Burgundy. Guillaume d’Angerville, of the famed Marquis d’Angerville (Volnay, Bourgogne), first tasted Jura wine at a blind tasting in Paris and after exhaustive research he decided to embark on a line of Jura wines, purchasing vineyards from Jura wine ‘pope’ Jacques Puffeney.
Stylistically Guillaume applies his Burgundian wine-making principles - that is, a non-oxidative approach (where the wine levels are kept topped-up rather than reduced under a layer of flor, exposing the juice to more oxygen) rather than the traditional Jura technique only.
The name ‘Domaine Pelican’ comes from the Pelican found in the crest of Arbois, and they have already gained a steady following, resulting inallocation for these special wines of distinction and character. Brut as in “dry”, S for Savagnin, and zero (°) for no dosage.
Savagnin is an extraordinary varietal which has the same DNA as the Traminer varietal. Because of its multi-faceted personality, there are many ways to work with Savagnin. In 2018 they were ready to produce a bubbly out of this grape. No sugar, no added yeasts, just the ripe fruit, 90% from vintage 2018 and 10% from vintage 2019 as it began fermenting. Disgorgement took place after 13 months. Brut as in « dry », S for Savagnin, and zero (°) for no dosage…
Telluride bottle works had a three bottle allocation of this. This was fantastic on day two with extended ox. Went back to purchase the other bottles with no luck. 12/25/2022
