If readers are searching for a super-ripe, blockbuster Corton-Charlemagne, then Henri Boillot’s 2002 should be passed over. However, if elegance, precision, complexity, and detail are what they desire, then they will adore this nectar. Spices, minerals, and slate are found in its complex aromatics. Medium-bodied, fleshy, and revealing outstanding depth, this Corton-Charlemagne is the essence of crystalline purity. A fully mature and elegantly pure nose features notes green apple and limestone notes that lead to frank, muscular and beautifully well-delineated full-bodied flavors that are underpinned by superb minerality and bright acidity on the impresively persistent finish. Thisis a classically proportioned Corton-Charlemagne that for my taste is drinking perfectly well today and there is no reason to hold it further though it certainly has the requisite concentration and acidity if one wanted to do so.
