Think round, dark red/black cherry, dense, well-made, and surrounded by deep leafy forest and moist earth. A mellifluous Volnay, and one that can be enjoyed now with 1 to 2 hours of the decanting. As the tannins wore off, the deep dark color yielded a slightly limited dimension of deep full Volnay typicity— what so many love. A very different experience than a 20- year old D’Angervile, but a rich one albeit with less delineation and subtlety than Champans from the Marquis. 8/21/2021

A very ripe, floral, refined and dazzlingly spicy black fruit nose introduces pure, detailed and almost aggressively mineral-infused flavors that possess a beautiful mouth feel while culminating in an explosive and overtly austere finish that borders on the painfully intense. This poised and harmonious effort will need every bit of 15 years to arrive at its full majority but it should be well worth the wait. 05/2011
