Abreu, Napa Valley, Thorevilos 2011
Description

97 points Vinous
The 2011 Thorevilos is surprisingly open and expressive today, which just makes it all the more pleasurable to taste. Grilled herbs, cedar, tobacco, cloves and licorice add dimensions of nuance to a dark, sumptuous wine endowed with striking balance and pure class. (AG) (12/2014)
96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
As good as other cuvées from Abreu are, I am beginning to believe that my favorite vineyard in Napa Valley may be the site that David Abreu co-owns with Ric Forman, the Thorevilos Vineyard. Situated on a steep hillside behind the luxury resort of Meadowood, it is, bizarrely, not entitled to any AVA. This cuvée is normally a blend of 45%-60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30%-40% Cabernet Franc and the rest tiny dollops of Petit Verdot and Merlot. The 2011 Proprietary Red Thorevilos exhibits classic notes of white flowers, blueberries, blackberries, and hints of chocolate and wet rocks, a full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet tannin and an incredibly long finish. In a vintage that offered so many challenges, this wine’s purity and full-bodied texture are remarkable. (RP) (10/2014)
