(Blind) Gorgeous spice on the nose, secondary but still very powerful. Guessing something fresh from mid-1990s. Some iodine and iron mineral. Has a flicker of Northern Rhone character as well in terms of a wild rusticity, although there is plenty of dark red fruit at the core. Becoming more elegant as it sits in the glass, not decanted. Great showing, great bottle, 93 - 94. 5/17/2025

Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): Man, I love 1993 red Burgundy so much. Crazy youthful and perfumed, it's incredibly how this has maintained its freshness over three decades. Clear spice notes here, and almost a bit crunchy still from the fruit. The tannins and acidity aren't overbearing; it's so elegant and lithe. Almost feels premature to drink this right now, especially compared to the 1993 Pousse Bousse which was drinking at full maturity. 3/8/2024

Decanted 30 minutes. The most open bottle of this wine I have experienced - perhaps they are now actually ready ! Restrained but beautiful aromatics of complex red fruits. Real depth on the palate. Length. A very complete expression of the beauty of top quality Volnay. Will keep. Bought on release. 12/15/2023

Another fantastic showing. Dark fruited with velvety soft texture. Slightly youthful somehow with sweet fruit. Again, delicious. 11/6/2023
