Paired with the 1988 Sori San Lorenzo… Decanted at 4:30 served at 7:30. Similar dark core, youthful appearance. The SSL offered its fruit forward bouquet immediately where the ST was far tighter and unyielding. By the time these were served the ST had gathered itself and showed as richer and more serious, with darker fruit, earth, baking spice and hints of rose petals. The SSL nose remained far lighter and more red fruited with similar spice accents but more rose petal, more playful. Both had fine tannins, good acidity and balance. As with the bouquet the ST showed a darker, deeper more complex palate. Where the SSL showed a lighter more elegant style. By the end of the meal @ 10:30 the ST had peaked and edged the SSL as the better wine of the evening. 11/5/2021
