The 2019 Cascina Sòt Langhe Nebbiolo is a youthful, vibrant, yet serious expressions of 100% Nebbiolo from the heart of Piedmont, Italy. Based in Monforte d’Alba, the fledgling Cascina Sòt estate is spearheaded by the talented winemaker Maurizio Sanso, who has garnered substantial attention for bringing immense fruit purity and precision to traditional Langhe winemaking.
The 2019 vintage across Piedmont is widely praised as an excellent, classic year. It provided a balanced growing season that blessed Nebbiolo with sharp concentration, firm structure, and highly lively, nervous acidity.
• Nose: Expressive and classic. It opens with bright aromas of fresh red fruits—such as wild strawberry and raspberry—mingled with notes of rose petals, clove, and undercurrents of earthy tobacco and forest floor.
• Palate: Juicy, balanced, and structural. Ripe sour cherry, blackberry, and licorice flavors provide a dense mid-palate, wrapped beautifully around a mineral stone core.
• Structure & Texture: Following 10 days of skin contact, 40% of the wine is aged in second-passage oak barriques for 6 months. This barrel aging rounds out the varietal's edges while preserving a distinct, serious tannic backbone and a lengthy, mouth-watering finish.
Current State: Nebbiolo from the 2019 vintage possesses excellent longevity. While many Langhe-level Nebbiolos are crafted for immediate early drinking, the structural depth of Cascina Sòt's 2019 bottling means it is drinking beautifully right now but will easily hold or evolve over the next few years.
