A quietly defiant Tuscan classic built on Sangioveto and Malvasia Nera, the 2020 opens with black cherry, macerated plum, dried violet, and tobacco leaf layered over crushed limestone and a faint iron note. Subtle cedar and cocoa from oak are well integrated. The palate is structured yet poised — dark cherry and blackberry edged by sour cherry brightness, with chalky, fine-grained tannins and Sangiovese’s savory sapidity recalling tomato leaf and dried herbs. The finish lingers on dried rose, leather, and mineral tension. Youthful, balanced, and built to evolve. Outstanding in quality and value if at $100. 2/11/2026

The 2020 I Sodi di San Niccolò is fabulous. It is a rare wine that offers power, finesse and translucent energy at once. All the elements are in perfect balance. I can’t remember a Sodi like this one, a wine that is so complete and alluring right out of the gate. Rose petal, lavender, spice, orange peel and sage open first. What impresses me most about the 2020 is the finesse of its tannin, something I have very rarely seen in Sodi at this early stage. Magical. This is remarkable in every way.
