Base of Neck or better; Kermit Lynch Import slips

65% Syrah, 35% Mourvèdre

Thirty-two of the Château’s eighty hectares are consecrated to terraced vineyard land with south-southeast sun exposure, on clay and limestone soils. This is unique terroir. Garrigue, the aromatic scrub brush that dominates the landscapes of the South, asserts its presence among these vines. Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre, the noble varietals that Jack Boutin planted here years ago, make up the reds. The whites include Viognier, Rolle, Grenache Blanc, Roussane and Marsanne. In the wise words of KLWM salesperson and legend, Michael Butler, “Lay down a few cases of history.”

CellarTracker

These old Cupa Numismae cuvées from Château La Roque are one of my favorite discoveries. A Syrah/Mourvèdre blend (65/35, I think), the wine ages very gracefully (pro tip: Mourvèdre blends from the south of France ftw). Nineteen years young, this is totally in the zone, seamlessly balanced and richly fruited with excellent vigor. Fantastic stuff. 10/31/2018

94 Points CellarTracker

It's been a few years but I agree with comments from egroves and whitealleycat. This wine is still drinking great after a few minutes to let off the funk. Nice smooth cherry long back finish...unfortunately last bottle, which cost me all of $19 in 2001. 4/28/2012
