Into Neck
This understated wine is immensely appealing now, but it will be even better in another year or two. Sportoletti's Villa Fidelia is one of the most compelling wines of Umbria. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it spends 12 months in small French oak barrels. While it's hard to describe a wine retailing for over $50 as a good value, in today's market, the 2006 Villa Fidelia offers as good a relative value as readers are likely to find. Simply put, this is a terrific effort from the Sportoletti brothers and oenologist Riccardo Cotarella.

Got half a case of this beauty from a private seller. Unbelievable structure in this wine. Like tasting a bowl of raspberries and cream with hints of tobacco and just a hint of mint. Drank over 3 nights and it improved drastically over the 2nd and 3rd night. Had it with steak and risotto on the 2nd night and with lasagna on the third night. It is so complex yet so delicious . I m just happy I have 5 more bottles in my cellar. 1/20/2020
