"Bright straw-yellow colour, paler on the rim. The nose is initially reserved and tightly bound, but unfolds to show an elegantly concentrated and layered core with aromas of ripe stone fruits and citrus fruits along with nuances of creamy, nutty barrel-ferment elements and a suggestion of flinty detail. This has richness and is balanced and well-integrated in presentation. Medium-bodied, the palate has a stylishly restrained, but rich and luscious heart, with elegant flavours of ripe citrus fruit with tropical fruit elements, along with creamy-textured barrel-ferment and nutty oak, complexed by flinty detail. The palate flows smoothly with acid freshness, linearity and subtle power, carrying to a soft, lingering, creamy, nutty finish. Serve with poultry and pork over the next 4-5 years. Clone 95 fruit from a single Dartmoor site, fully barrel-fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 15 months in 40% new French oak with 100% MLF. 18.0+/20"

Hand selected fruit with 12 months maturation in new and one year old French oak, the wine is beautifully textured, full bodied with butterscotch and spicy oak flavors.

Displaying mineral tones from the Terroir, this wine has a delightful and very long finish.

Squawking Magpie Owner and Director Gavin Yortt planted the main Woodland’s vineyard in 1995, with further holdings in 2002 extending the focus on Hawkes Bay classic grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. They are members of Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and maintain a strong focus on cellaring wines and a quality-driven (rather than brand-driven) market strategy, which begins with rigorous vineyard management. Though not shouting from every shelf, on quality-for-value Squawking Magpie wines are often among the best Hawkes Bay has to offer.
