Like the Le Mont Premier Trie, the 2008 Clos du Bourg Premier Trie is a beautiful wine on both the nose and palate. The level of botrytis here seems a tad greater than in the Le Mont, but perhaps that is just how the wine is showing at the present time. In any event, the Clos du Bourg Premier Trie offers up a magical bouquet of pink grapefruit, honeycomb, apples, utterly refined and complex soil tones, orange peel and a complex floral topnote that recalls both apple blossoms and bee pollen. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, complex and full-bodied, with a beautiful core of fruit, great focus and cut, bright acids and outstanding length and grip on the supremely elegant finish. This is a tad more closed and reticent than the Le Mont Premier Trie at the present time, but it may well be every bit as good as that magical wine. (JD) 95+  (9/2009)

Huet's brilliantly dark yellow colored 2008 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Moelleux Première Trie offers a super clear and ripe, concentrated and highly elegant, gorgeously aromatic bouquet of ripe, yellow-skinned fruits and a dusty stone and smoky bacon aromas. Sweet and full of finesse and salty minerals on the highly elegant and fruit-intense palate, this beautifully balanced Chenin develops a great tension, density and compact structure that also dominates the long and very promising finish. There is so much finesse and concentration in this wine that you can only fall in love with it. Luckily this affair will hold much longer than today's average marriage. (SR) (11/2015)

Starts with a tangy crème fraîche note before giving way to green almond, green tea, chamomile, powdered ginger and mineral notes. So precise it almost comes off as dry in feel, but the finish belies its late harvest with a showy candied citrus peel note. (JM) (5/2011)
