Feusselottes theme lunch at Sinai. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose medium intensity, with aromas of dark undergrowth, earth, some brooding underlying fruit. Developing.

On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red plum, dark red cherries, undergrowth earth, sweet dark spice, dark minerals. Very long finish. Very good quality. Something tells me this vintage is still going strong, and currently still in a somewhat awkward stage of development. Wow turned out to be older than 2001 vintage of this wine in the same flight. 12/10/2020

While it's no surprise, this continues to be one knockout Chambolle as it's superbly elegant in every respect with its stylish pinot fruit, intense, sappy crushed red fruit flavors, medium weight yet very fine tannins and sneaky persistence. This is the essence of Pinot finesse and is wonderfully seductive. While not especially dense or weighty, it is textbook Chambolle-Musigny in its remarkable purity of expression, laser-like precision and lacy transparency and offers good finishing richness. In short, this is drop dead gorgeous and highly recommended. Note that I have extended the initial drinking window by a few years though it continues to seduce now and it would be no crime to open a bottle now. (11/2005)

Like so many of the 1999s that I have tasted upon their arrival here in the US, the ’99 Feusselottes is a lovely wine that is still quite dominated by its succulent primary fruit. The bouquet offers up scents of black cherries, berries, dark chocolate, mustard, earth and a touch of nutty new oak. With extended air a note of lead pencil also developed. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish and quite tangy, with lovely length and focus, and fine grip on the lush and ripely tannic finish. This is a wine of abundant, buxom fruit at the moment; it should show more of its structural elements as some of the exuberant puppy fat of fruit peels away a bit over the coming four or five years. It is a lovely, charming 1999 red. (7/2007)
