Francois Buffet, Volnay, Taillepieds 1er Cru 2022
All wines purchased upon release, many purchased importer-direct, and all stored in a purpose built redundant temperature and humidity controlled cellar.
The 2022 Domaine François Buffet Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" is a masterful, critically acclaimed expression from what Marc-Olivier Buffet handles as one of his absolute finest terroirs. In the highly successful 2022 Burgundy vintage, this wine achieves a sensational symbiosis: wrapping Taillepieds' signature chiseled, rock-driven minerality in a generous, pure, and concentrated layer of pristine Pinot Noir fruit.
• Vineyard: Sourced from old vines rooted in highly fractured, angular limestone fragments and steep topsoil. This creates micro-yielding berries with hyper-focused flavor extraction.
• Vinification: Hand-harvested, rigorously sorted, and natively fermented. To offset the natural solar concentration of the 2022 vintage, Buffet used a portion of whole clusters to maintain high-toned botanical aromas, energetic lift, and structure.
• Maturation: Matured in fine French oak barriques to polish the vineyard’s sharp edges without introducing aggressive wood tannins.
• Aroma: Opens with a vibrant, perfumed nose dominated by fresh wild strawberries, sour red cherries, and dried huckleberries, seamlessly integrated with hints of violet petals, black tea, and a sharp, flinty mineral background.
• Palate: Medium-bodied, sleek, and highly athletic. The pristine 2022 fruit hits the palate with amazing freshness and energy, supported by precise limestone acidity and tight, chalky-fine tannins.
• Finish: Powerfully long and clean, concluding with a classic, mouth-watering saline energy and lingering accents of white pepper and spice.
