Whistling Eagle, Heathcote, Eagles Blood, Shiraz 2004
Whistling Eagle vineyard is perched on the greenstone range above the township of Colbinabbin. The ancient Cambrian Earth in this region is perfect for creating extraordinary wines. The Eagles Blood Shiraz produced at Whistling Eagle vineyard is the ultimate expression of transition from Cambrian Earth to wine that displays spectacular colour, depth of flavour and balance. Ian is the fourth generation of Rathjens, to till the rich, fertile soils of the Colbinabbin District. Ian began his forte into winemaking with the first vintage of Shiraz in 1997. The Batch size was a mere 10 bottles. Since then Whistling Eagle vineyard has grown substantially. The first commercial vintage of Eagles Blood Shiraz was produced in 1999.
92 Points Wine Advocate
The superb, powerful yet elegant 2004 Shiraz Eagle’s Blood exhibits an opaque ruby/purple hue, a striking minerality, and sweet creme de cassis notes intermixed with blackberry, cold steel, and acacia flower characteristics. Precise, pure, full-bodied, and moderately tannic, it will benefit from 1-2 years of cellaring, and should keep for 10-15 years. (RP) 12/2006
