The 2012 Le Rocche dei Barbari Langhe Nebbiolo "Primanebbia" is an extraordinary, cult-status expression of 100% Nebbiolo that operates in a realm entirely its own. Based in Barbaresco, Le Rocche dei Barbari is an under-the-radar, family-owned artisanal producer tracing its winemaking roots back to the 17th century. Insider enthusiasts and specialty importers frequently compare their traditional, deeply romantic philosophy to some of the most uncompromising, "head-in-the-clouds" boutique growers of France.

The 2012 vintage in Piedmont was excellent, yielding highly balanced, classical Nebbiolo marked by natural freshness and impressive longevity.

• "On-Demand" Philosophy: Le Rocche dei Barbari approaches aging with radical patience. The wine undergoes extended macerations and ages for at least three to four years in old, neutral wood casks before bottling. Fascinatingly, they keep the majority of their wine bulk-aged in the cellar and bottle only on demand once a year, allowing the wine an remarkably slow, undisturbed evolution.
• Nose: Enticingly complex and deeply ethereal. At over a decade old, it bursts with a combination of dried red fruits (cranberry and sour cherry), pressed rose petals, leather, old wood, and a pungent mix of exotic baking spices and star anise.
• Palate: Old-school, ultra-refined, and stunningly precise. It flashes a surprising, explosive sweetness of fruit and crystalline clarity, balanced seamlessly by a gentle granitic mineral wash and vibrant, mouth-watering alpine acidity.
• Structure: The structural frame features completely integrated, ultra-fine, velvety tannins that provide a classic structural skeleton without ever feeling blocky or harsh. The finish is remarkably long, dry, and detailed.

• Current State: Fully mature and drinking in an absolute sweet spot right now. Because of the winery's unique library-aging system, the 2012 vintage retains a youthful core of primary fruit vibrancy while showing the exquisite grace of a perfectly aged Nebbiolo. It will easily hold its peak form for another 5 to 8+ years.
