The 2013 Massimo Rattalino Barolo "Trentaquattro 34" is a highly acclaimed, classic expression of 100% Nebbiolo from Piedmont, Italy. Massimo Rattalino focuses his winemaking on precision and elegance, utilizing numbered cuvées to distinguish his specific vineyard lines.
The 2013 vintage is widely celebrated across Barolo as a legendary, old-school year. A cooler spring led to a delayed growing season and a perfect, sunny autumn, which allowed the Nebbiolo grapes to develop incredible structural depth, vibrant acidity, and massive aging potential.
• Nose: Bold, highly complex, and deeply savory. It exhibits mature aromas of dark-skinned berry fruit, dried roses, and sweet tobacco, layered beautifully with accents of black olive, rhubarb, and warm baking spices (clove and allspice).
• Palate: Full-bodied, layered, and muscular. Deep flavors of cooked plum, sour cherry, and raspberry meld into an intense savory landscape of leather, forest floor (sous-bois), and smoky oaked tobacco.
• Structure: It possesses huge, chewy, long-grained tannins and a punchy wave of refreshing acidity that provides a powerful structural skeleton. The finish is remarkably long and balanced.
