Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 1997 Merlot Howell Mountain exhibits a dark ruby color as well as a sweet, berry-scented nose with subtle earth and pain grille in the background. This fleshy, medium to full-bodied, and supple offering is best consumed over the next 5-7 years. (RP) (6/2002)

Wine Spectator

Lots of pretty flavors and fine balance, with black cherry, spice, currant and plum, finishing with touches of cedar and more spice. Mildly tannic, it can stand short-term cellaring. (JL) Inner quote mark (9/2001)
