Absolutely knockout stuff, the 2000 Léoville Poyferré is a sexy, layered, totally irresistible Bordeaux that’s firing on all cylinders today. Sporting a deep ruby/purple color and blockbuster notes of blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, cedar and tobacco, this concentrated, powerful 2000 has a rounded, opulent texture, sweet tannin, and a huge finish. It’s a quintessential Poyferré and my only regret is I didn’t buy more. 02/2018

Deep ruby/garnet, pronounced, blueberry, toast, white pepper, cigar, prune, cedar, wet stone, savory, mushroom, game. Medium+ acid, high tannins, fully body, long finish. An outstanding wine from a vintage that is really drinking well, especially the wines below the First Growths. Drink now or hold for some additional development. 40% primary, 60% tertiary. 2/3/2026

Gorgeous St. Julien in full maturity. Fabulous pencil shavings, tobacco, and cedar notes. It has a touch forest floor. Some volatility adds further depth. Supple palate, blackcurrant, iron ore, incredibly fragrant nose. Quite tannic. This is great Bordeaux that goes down like water. Feels like a nod to old school Bordeaux in this vintage. Will this improve? I’m not sure, but it will certainly develop and follow an interesting path. Clearly vin de garde. 2/26/2026
