Achim Dürr, Baden, Hard 200, Pinot Noir 2020
All wines purchased upon release, many purchased importer-direct, and all stored in a purpose built redundant temperature and humidity controlled cellar.
The 2020 Achim Dürr Pinot Noir "Hard 200°" is a highly specialized, low-intervention Spätburgunder from the boutique estate Weingut Achim Dürr. In his "Hard" series (which also includes expressions like Hard 180° and Hard 225°), Dürr crafts precision-driven natural wines from parcel-specific vinifications on specialized soils in Baden, Germany.
• Aromatics: A highly complex, wild, and developing nose. It leads with dominant notes of sour cherry, cranberry, and raspberry, backed by savory and herbal undertones of mustard seed, cut dill, celery root, and parsnip over a backdrop of coniferous forest floor.
• Palate: Crisp and entirely focused on vibrant primary fruit. Wine insiders describe it as having "early season laser cherries" on the palate with a translucent core, light body, medium tannins, and a striking, refreshing medium-plus acidity.
• The "Hard" Series Distinction: The numerical indicators (like 200°) in this line denote specific barrel or parcel profiles, resulting in an elegant balance of deep texture and intense flavor that drinks similarly to premium cool-climate, high-altitude New World Pinot Noirs.
