Achim Dürr, Baden, Hard 225, Pinot Noir 2020
nicked labels; All wines purchased upon release, many purchased importer-direct, and all stored in a purpose built redundant temperature and humidity controlled cellar.
The 2020 Achim Dürr Pinot Noir "Hard 225°" is a highly characterful, low-intervention Spätburgunder crafted by micro-producer Weingut Achim Dürr in Baden, Germany. In his "Hard" series, the degrees (like 225° or 200°) correspond to distinct lot, parcel, or structural profiles, with the 225° iteration leaning into a slightly deeper, more structured, yet wonderfully wild profile.
• Aromatics: A lively, developing nose marked by bright fruit and distinct earthy nuances. Expect prominent aromas of strawberry, cranberry, and sour cherry, balanced by complex notes of camphor, rose petal, and earthy spice.
• Palate: The wine is highly energetic and focused on a laser-sharp core of tart primary fruit. It displays strong, driving acidity with integrated, virtually weightless tannins, a translucent ruby hue, and a medium-length finish.
• Natural Style Notes: True to Achim Dürr’s natural wine philosophy, this bottling features an edgy profile with a touch of Volatile Acidity (VA). This gives it a sharp, rustic crunch that appeals heavily to natural wine enthusiasts but might surprise traditionalists expecting a smooth, oak-driven Pinot Noir.
