Louis Jadot (Domaine des Heritiers Louis Jadot), Puligny Montrachet, Les Folatieres 2008
Original Wooden Case; pristine condition
93 John Gilman - View from the Cellar
I have noted the Folatieres from the older, Heritiers de Louis Jadot parcel as Domaine Louis Jadot here, but the label will actually be distinguished by the fine print which will denote its origin. This is even a hair finer and racier…, as it offers up a superb bouquet of apple, white peaches, a touch of hazelnut, a great, complex base of minerality and a lovely topnote of spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full- bodied, tight and racy, with a rock solid core, brisk acids and great length and grip on the very minerally finish. This is a terrific bottle of Folatieres. 2014-2040.

Four years (almost to the day) since my last note on this. Now a modest gold color; fully mature, resolved, balanced and feminine in style but with ample acidity still, this only warrants further cellaring if you like the nutty and melon qualities that come with aging “beyond peak”. I am amused by people who’ll age WB so they can rave about those few that taste 5 yrs old at age 15, but scream “prem-ox!” when a 15 yr old wine shows it’s real age (they actually detest the aromas and flavors of mature WB). At prime; if you truly like the complexity of mature WB, you have a 2-3 yr window. 93+ (7/2020)

Lardiere indicated that this had just been bottled, which explains the mild SO2 notes that should be absorbed in due course. The sulfur aside, the green fruit, intense citrus and fennel aromas trimmed in discreet wood slide gracefully into stony, energetic and racy flavors that possess excellent delineation on the mouth coating and explosive finish. This is a beautiful combination of impressive intensity and a bone dry finish. Worth considering.
