The 2019 Weingut Jürgen von der Mark 'Engertstein' Pinot Noir is a highly characterful, Burgundian-style Spätburgunder crafted by an artisan Master of Wine in Germany's Baden region. Known for displaying impressive depth and structural strictness without losing its nimble, elegant nature, this vintage stands out as an exceptional value tier.
• Aroma: A concentrated nose packed with ripe red and dark berries—such as sour cherry, raspberry, and cranberry—accented by violet florals, tobacco, and cold coffee.
• Palate: Dry and medium-bodied with medium-plus acidity, featuring an intense fruit core balanced by elegant, structuring tannins and distinct wet-earth nuances.
• Finish: Broad and persistent, leaving behind sophisticated, lingering layers of white pepper, subtle milk chocolate, and savory baking spices.
• Alcohol Content: Balanced at 13.5% vol.
• Terroir: Sourced from the Tuniberg district in the Markgräflerland subregion of Baden. Vines range from 10 to 40 years old and sit on rich limestone soils, which yield fine, mineral-driven acidity.
• Vinification: Hand-harvested and meticulously managed by Jürgen von der Mark using organic principles. It undergoes spontaneous fermentation followed by roughly 15 months of maturation in small French oak barrels (approximately 10% new wood) to integrate subtle vanilla and spice notes.
• Philosophy: Bottled with minimal handling to maintain an authentic expression of the vintage, bridging the gap between classic German terroir and luxury Burgundy flair.
