Laurel Glen, Sonoma Mountain, Cabernet Sauvignon 1987

Laurel Glen Vineyard is in Glen Ellen, in the Sonoma appellation. It was a vineyard in the late 19th century when German immigrants began growing grapes, but it was replanted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1968. In 1977 Patrick Campbell purchased the property. Today the winemaker is Randall Watkins and the estate makes Cabernet Sauvignon and Rose.

Dark garnet, a little clearing at the rim, no browning. This is just lovely. Shoe polish, black cherries that are slightly underripe, truffles. A little green/herby, a little bloody. Medium + texture, this is still holding well and did not come apart in the 6 hours we had it open. Pre 94 Laurel Glen is in my wheelhouse - there's no better reasonably priced look at old California these days. 7/5/2022

Very lovely. No sign of age, how long will it last? Paired with a NY strip perfectly. Great flavors, tannins fully resolved. Both wife and i were impressed, maybe score higher? Bought on release and properly stored. Was buying this wine regularly in the 80s. 9/18/2023
