Littorai, Anderson Valley, Savoy Vineyard, Pinot Noir 2018
Received in Original Carton
What attracted Littorai to this area of Savoy is an old world notion that the best parcels within a vineyard lie at the toe of the slope. Adding to this is the complexity of the clones within Savoy. This is the only valley floor vineyard that we work with anywhere. Our rows are located at the base of the hills on the northeastern side of the Anderson Valley. While this is the cooler end of the valley, the vineyard is protected on two sides, trapping more warmth than most of the neighboring sites. Littorai has been the longest purchaser of Savoy fruit since 1995. This vineyard is farmed using only organic materials, not certified.
Littorai's 2018 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard is fabulous. Bright and focused, with terrific energy, the 2018 is a wine of pure and total class. Lavender, purplish fruit, spice and mint all jump out of the glass. More than anything else, the 2018 is marked by terrific freshness and energy that provide tons of complexity to play off the fruit that comes so naturally here. The 50% whole clusters are not at all evident. This is a stellar wine in the making. (AG) 04/2020
Stunning, positively stunning floral nose with cherry, strawberry and deep inflection of Anderson Valley loam. Earthy, rich, just a delight. A lovely palate dense with more fruit, earth notes, a tart grapey finish, and good length. Medium+ weight, and full of what I love about AV, California sunshine, fog, earth. Some tannins on the long finish point to reasonably long term development but no insult to drink so young. I should do it more often with Littorai's Pinots. Excellent. Decanted an hour. 12/11/2020
